The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens is a living museum dedicated to cultivating and displaying a rich variety of irises, recording the history of the genus, providing horticultural expertise and activities for the public, and, in partnership with the Township of Montclair, maintaining the gardens.

$80.00 for 80 Years

For 80 years, The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens has been one of the world’s preeminent horticultural leaders dedicated to cultivating, displaying and maintaining one of the richest varieties of iris. Through those years, we have been recording the history of the genus, providing horticultural expertise and activities for the public and, in partnership with the Township of Montclair, bringing awareness and acclaim to our cause and our community.

With every passing year, we have been able to accomplish our tasks and claim pride in our work though the generous support of our friends and patrons. Last year, we were pleased to announce that we had received a matching grant from the Essex County Open Space Trust. This year, we are equally delighted to report that Presby has been selected to receive funding for a Historic Sites Management Grant from the State of New Jersey. The funds will enable us to complete detailed studies on the feasibility of major upgrades to the Walther House and Property in order to create a year-round Educational Center at Presby. In the very competitive world of grants, Presby was one of the 61 out of 148 grant applications selected by the Historic Sites Committee.

Like the Essex County Trust grant, the Historic Sites funding is a matching grant. This means that while we will receive funds from this Trust, we need to match the funds provided in order to receive the full amount of the grant. To this end, we are calling on our friends to, once again, help us fulfill the full promise of this award.

This year, our 80th anniversary, we are asking friends and patrons to consider making a gift in increments of $80 to help us reach our goal. Maybe you can make a donation of $80 for the year. Maybe you can donate $80 per quarter. Perhaps you could choose an $80 per month option. And yes, if you can contribute more than that, we will certainly be grateful! In any amount you choose, you will be helping to ensure the future of The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens. And for that, we thank you.

Naming Opportunities at The Presby Memorial Iris Gardens

IRIS GARDEN BED PLAQUE: $3,000
A permanent plaque in honor of a special person or event will be placed in an iris bed of your choice.

BENCH: $4,000
An attractive bench will be installed in the gardens with a permanent nameplate in honor of a special person or event.

TREE: $5,000
A specimen tree will be dedicated in your honor with a commemorative plaque.

BENEFACTORS PLAQUE: $25,000
A new iris be will be hybridized and named in your honor and your name will be added to the Benefactors Plaque.
